Rytm is a Windows desktop app for tasks and time tracking. This page explains which data it uses, where that data is stored and how to remove access.
Where your data is stored
Everything you create in Rytm (tasks, notes, comments, attachments, events, time history, recordings and settings) is stored on your computer. There is no Rytm server: none of your data is sent to the developer or to third parties. The app has no ads and collects no usage statistics.
Google account
Google Drive sync and the Google Calendar integration are optional and stay off until you turn each one on in Settings. Each feature asks only for its own permission, at the moment you turn it on.
- Rytm reads the email address (and, with Drive, the name) of the connected account, only to show in Settings which account is in use.
- Data goes directly from your computer to your Google account, through Google's services.
- Access to the account is stored in Windows Credential Manager, on your computer.
Google Drive sync
If you turn on sync, Rytm keeps a copy of your data in a folder named Rytm in your own Google Drive, to keep your computers in sync.
- Rytm requests only the
drive.filepermission: it can see only the files it created. The other files in your Drive are not accessible to it.
Google Calendar
If you connect Google Calendar (Settings › Calendar), Rytm uses these permissions:
calendar.app.created: Rytm creates one calendar of its own named Rytm in your account and creates, updates and deletes events only in that calendar. It receives the events from Rytm's Calendar page (title, date and time, location, description, recurrence and reminders) and, if you turn this option on, your task deadlines (task title and deadline). Email and notification reminders are sent by Google Calendar itself. Changes you make to that calendar in Google come back to Rytm. Rytm does not write to your other calendars.calendar.calendarlist.readonlyandcalendar.events.readonly: requested only if you turn on "Show my other calendars". Rytm reads the list of your calendars, so you can choose which ones appear, and the events of the chosen calendars (title, time and location), to show them in Rytm's Calendar page. This is read-only: Rytm never changes those events. They are stored on your computer so they can be shown offline.
Disconnecting Google Calendar in Rytm does not delete the "Rytm" calendar from your account. To delete it, use Google Calendar (calendar settings › Remove calendar).
Limited use of Google data
Rytm's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Google data is used only to provide the features described above, to you. It is not sent to the developer or to third parties, not sold, not used for advertising or to train AI models, and not read by humans.
Weather on the Home page
To show the weather, Rytm queries the free Open-Meteo service. It sends the city name you type in the search and the coordinates of the chosen city. No account data is sent. As with any internet request, the service can see the computer's IP address.
Updates
Rytm checks for new versions in a public Google Drive folder owned by the developer, without signing in and without sending any of your data.
Meeting recordings
Meeting transcription happens on your computer, without sending the audio to the internet. Audio goes to your Drive only if sync is on.
How to remove access and data
- In Rytm: Settings › Sync or Settings › Calendar › disconnect.
- In your Google account: myaccount.google.com/permissions › Rytm › Remove access.
- To delete the copy in Drive, delete the Rytm folder. To delete the calendar, remove the Rytm calendar in Google Calendar. To delete the data on the computer, uninstall Rytm and delete the
%APPDATA%\com.pedro.rytmfolder.
